POSITION SUMMARY:
This summer internship is part of a seasonal team responsible for the Urban Affairs Coalition’s Summer Youth Employment program, which provides paid summer job opportunities and support to youth ages 14-18 through WorkReady Philadelphia. The six week program runs from July through mid-August and includes career exposure, on-the-job mentoring and professional development. In 2015, the program served 1,600 youth.

Interns may choose 1 focus area from the 2 below:

Program Intern - Assist Program Manager in the implementation of their duties, including:

-Assist with managing, collecting, and inputting youth participant data and timesheets;
-Assist with placement and/or re-assignment of youth program participants;
-Tracking pay or worksite-related data;
-Coordinating youth professional development workshops and curriculum
-Visiting worksites on an as-needed basis to assist with distribution or collection of materials;
-Assist with phone calls, filing, data entry, and troubleshooting inquiries and issues
-Perform other related duties as assigned.

OR

Communications Intern - Assist Assistant Director with program marketing and communications, including:

-Crafting and implementing a communications plan to keep program participants and worksite up-to-date and well informed on program information;
-Take photos and collect stories for social media and the web
-Assist with answering phone call and email inquiries to troubleshoot issues and concerns;
-Assist with planning end-of-program celebration, including a large event to thank the participants for their hard work and dedication.
-Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
-Must be a flexible, communicative, and agile team player, able to coordinate and share resources and data;
-Passion for and interest in youth development;
-Strong inquiry and conflict resolution skills;
-Must be able to multi-task while remaining organized and detailed-oriented;
-Good verbal and written communication skills; customer-service oriented;
-Must be a self-starter with good time management skills;

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
-High school diploma/GED required;
-Experience working in the nonprofit, education, and/or business sectors preferred;
-Communications Intern must have experience and/or be majoring in communications or marketing
-Proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
