Youth Seed Enterprise – Program Assistant

Youth Seed Enterprise (YSE) is an innovative 8-week summer program for 15-20 youth ages 13- 18 which cultivates new understandings and uniquely equips participants to be active contributors to meaningful change in our world. Youth learn to establish and manage organic vegetable gardens in their own communities and then create an enterprise which delivers the fruits of their labors to paying customers and neighbors in need.
Job Description: Trellis for Tomorrow is now accepting applications for YSE Program Assistant who will report to and work alongside the YSE Program Director. This is a seasonal, part-time position beginning in mid-June and ending in mid-August of 2020, Monday-Thursday each week (approx. 7:30am-3:30pm) with a short staff meeting on Friday mornings. Roughly 32-36hrs/wk. This position requires good communication skills, capacity for working with youth, attention to detail, familiarity with social media, flexibility and a sense of humor.
The Trellis for Tomorrow offices are based in Phoenixville, and YSE program locations are in Phoenixville, Spring City and Pottstown. Applicants should have a valid PA’s drivers license and provide their own transportation. All Trellis employees are required to have current criminal and child abuse clearances.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBLITIES
• Support the Program Director and 15-20 youth participants in assigned work projects, ensuring participants are safe, properly using equipment, engaged and working cooperatively; work alongside youth to complete assigned tasks; take initiative to lead and instruct as required
• Assist in the set-up, clean-up and breakdown of program activities
• Coordination with Program Director for delivery of program modules
• Assist with transporting participants, when necessary
• Participate in program activities including, but not limited to: gardening, group
discussions, team break-out sessions, business planning modules, group activities,
community engagement and participant evaluations
• Transmit communications to participants

• Assisting in the curation of online content to promote YSE and Trellis activities
• Participate in Trellis’ program and participant evaluation process
• Maintain daily attendance records
QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience working with youth (preferably teens) in various situations
• Knowledge or interest in some combination of the following subjects: gardening, food,
community engagement, starting/running a business, sustainability
• Ability to lead activities while promoting collaboration and cooperation
• Ability to provide and receive honest, supportive feedback
• Capacity for problem solving and for offering creative solutions
• Flexibility and a willingness to “pitch in” wherever needed
• Ability to organize activities and maintain records
• Ability to perform garden work/tasks outside in various conditions (rain or shine)
• Attention to detail
REQUIREMENTS
• College degree or very strong undergraduate experience
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Driver’s license and a clean driving record
• Physically able to do necessary lifting and bending required of gardening and other daily
activities
• Must provide FBI & State Criminal Background checks & Child Abuse History clearances
• Provide professional references (at least two)
