Within this Internship opportunity, students will be able to work closely with a range of students.
The population within the area includes children and older adults. These students
require individual music lessons weekly involving music theory, music history,
and music education domains through a variety of repertoire. Experience
working in special education is preferred, but not necessary. Interventions
lead by interns will include, but are not limited to piano, guitar, and voice
The length of the internship depends on credits required. Most 3 credit internships last between 3 to 6 months or until 45 to 60 hours are met. Weekly supervision as well as formal evaluations will be made at the 1 month, 3 month, and 6 month mark in order to set and critic student goal areas. An initial interview as well as a closing critic are also required.
Experience in playing piano and/or guitar at an intermediate
to advance level. General experience singing in choir or within a concert-like
setting. Basic knowledge of music theory and music history skills. Students
will be refreshed on these skills. Grading will be based on implementation of
general and acquired knowledge. Students must have a reliable car to travel to the students.
