Description

PHMC's Interim House West program, one of the few residential substance abuse treatment programs in Philadelphia for women and their children is seeking a Medical Assistant. Provide overall assistance to the community health nurse in providing the following functions:

Nursing assessments
•Nursing Assessments: demographics, weight, height, vital signs, admission blood work
•Supervision of client self-administration of medications, prn medications three times per evening
•Triage residents presenting with health related concerns
•Obtaining Vital signs
•UDS, Random, Breathalyzer

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Assist with the coordination and management of prescription medications and coordination with contract pharmacy.


•Ensure medical suite is in compliance with state regulations.


•Review required process pharmacy and lab bills for eligibility, copy and file medical forms.


•Work with case management to access client’s benefits and obtain copies of MA Card.


•Assist with Community Health Nurse monthly reports and enter weekly appointment on designated days.


•Scheduling medical appointments for clients and children.


•Provide back- up coverage to administrative assistant, answer phones, timekeeping, and typing, ordering supplies


SKILLS:
•Experience working with diverse populations
•Ability to work with addicted women with critical and emergent situations. Sensitivity to cultural and economic differences.
•Knowledge of regional and service pool.
•Thorough understanding of medical and psychosocial issues related to addiction.
•Maintain active CPR and First Aid certifications.
•Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Associates degree with one year in human service or H.S. Diploma and/GED with 5 years experience in human service.
•Graduate of a vocational school. Medical Assistant certification preferred.
•Previous work experience at least 2-3 years, preferably in a community or residential setting.

SALARY GRADE:
•Commensurate with education and experience.

•Associates degree with one year in human service or H.S. Diploma and/GED with 5 years experience in human service.
•Graduate of a vocational school. Medical Assistant certification preferred.
•Previous work experience at least 2-3 years, preferably in a community or residential setting.
