St. Edmond’s Home serves children with a diagnosis of severe or profound intellectual and physical disabilities. Our staff not only provides the medical support that they need but also provides therapeutic interventions and a plethora of activities for the children to experience. The children go on outings to the museums, movies, theaters, sporting events, they attend school in the community. St. Edmond’s strives to provide a happy and healthy childhood maximizing the potential of each child.

The Developmental Programs Direct Support Member/Notre Dame Americorps Members Role:

Assist in development, planning, and implementation of educational, vocational or recreational activities for adults, youth, or children residing at one or more of the program facilities.
Train/mentor residents participating in educational, vocational or recreational activities.
Converse with residents to reinforce positive behaviors and promote social interaction.
Assist residents in preparing and/or serving meals and eat with residents to act as role model.
Accompany residents on shopping trips to guide them in purchasing personal items.
Aid staff in conducting physical exercise, occupational arts and crafts, and recreational games.
Coordinate and attend community outings with residents to ensure their safety and return.
Provide crisis intervention for residents to prevent injury to themselves and/or others.
Observe and document residents' behavior to facilitate assessment of treatment goals.
Attend to routine health care needs of residents under supervision of medical personnel.
Develop strategies to ensure quality of service in a safe and stimulating environment.
Expand outreach to engage families of residents as participants in family fun events.
Assist in implementation of nutritional curriculum and monitor dietary restrictions.
Design strategies to engage residents in learning common gestures of courtesy and basic communication skills to interact effectively with other residents during meals or activities.
